I would like to connect my xbox360 to my receiver (for surround sound) but cannot?
I just bought a Pioneer VSX519V receiver. I currently run my Comcast HD box and PS3 to the receiver via HDMI cables, then HDMI from the receiver to my television. The PS3 and cable audio go through the surround with no problems. But I cannot find a way to connect my XBOX to the receiver so I can play games in (some sort of) surround sound. I was told this is possible - but have tried everything.
One thing, my xbox is a little older and doesn't have the newer HDMI cable - it has the older component cable with the 6 plugs.
I am not an audiophile, and do not care if the surround is truly "surround" - I just want to play my xbox through other speakers than my televisions. Any help is appreciated.
Run just the red/green/blue video part of the component cables into your tv. Then run an optical cable straight from the xbox into your receiver. Set the xbox sound output to bitstream. When you use the xbox you'll have to turn the tv's sound off and choose the optical input on your receiver and the component input on your tv.
